About the retreat
If you are flying from Los Angeles, the Riviera Nayarit coast is the shortest serious yoga trip in Mexico. Alaska Airlines, Delta and United all fly LAX to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) nonstop year-round, with American adding seasonal service, and FlightConnections lists the nonstop as roughly 3 hours 20 minutes. Compare that to the Caribbean side, where Tulum retreats mean a longer flight east plus a transfer.
From PVR it is about 45 minutes north by road to Sayulita, a surf village of about 25 miles up Highway 200. Haramara Retreat sits just outside it on 12 private acres of tropical jungle above the Pacific, on a site the Riviera Nayarit tourism board dates to 2003.
Haramara does not publish nightly rates or package prices publicly. Its own site lists the Healing Reset package as inquire for pricing, and most of the retreats held there are organized by visiting teachers and studios who set their own rates and dates. Retreat highlights
The cabanas are hand-built from natural materials and have no electricity, lit instead by oil lamps and candles, with mosquito nets over the beds and hot showers. The Riviera Nayarit tourism board counts 16 cabanas sleeping one to three guests each, plus a dormitory that sleeps up to eight.
Practice happens in two yoga pavilions with high thatched roofs, handcrafted hardwood floors and 360-degree views. Each shala holds up to 40 people, so most retreat groups get the space to themselves.
The retreat has its own private stretch of Pacific beach, reached on foot in about five minutes from the property's highest point. The 12 acres between the casitas and the water are left as untouched jungle.
A saltwater infinity pool looks out over the ocean, with a hot tub on site as well. It is the main gathering point between morning and evening practice.
The kitchen serves three fresh organic meals a day, vegetarian and gourmet, built around whatever local ingredients the chef gets that day. Fish and seafood are available on request, and special dietary requirements are accommodated.
There is an open-air therapeutic wellness center on site offering massage and spa treatments. Temazcal, the traditional Mexican sweat lodge ceremony, is among the experiences offered.
Haramara caps the property at 50 guests. With 16 cabanas and a single dormitory, it stays closer to a private compound than a resort, which is the practical difference between this and the larger wellness hotels further south.
The retreat is a few minutes from Sayulita itself, a fishing and surf town with an established yoga community, beach breaks suitable for beginners, and restaurants and shops within walking distance of the plaza.
Beyond yoga and meditation, the retreat offers hiking on the property and horseback riding, alongside the beach and pool. Days are typically built around two practices with the middle of the day open.
Haramara has been running for over two decades and holds a 4 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor, ranked #7 of 23 hotels in Sayulita as of this writing, with reviews posted in 2026 praising the food, the massage therapists and the staff.
