Step through the pose Mountain
How to do it
- Lie on your back and bring the soles of the feet together.
- Let the knees fall open toward the floor.
- Place a cushion or block under each knee so nothing hangs unsupported.
- Rest the hands on the belly or out to the sides and stay for several minutes.
Why it helps
- Opens the inner thighs passively
- Encourages full, easy breathing through an open chest
- Deeply settling before sleep
Common mistakes
- Leaving the knees hanging unsupported, which turns rest into a stretch.
- Bringing the feet too close to the pelvis, which strains the knees.
Before you try it
- Always support the knees. Move the feet further away if the groin pinches.
This is general information, not medical advice. If you're working with an injury, a health condition, or you're pregnant, check with a doctor or physical therapist and tell your teacher before class.
Make it easier
- Bolster lengthways under the spine.
- Cushions under both knees.
- Strap around the pelvis and feet to hold the shape without effort.
